Greetings, this is Nazrul from the Hokkaido Government Representative Office.
Tokachi is known for its severely cold winter, but it also has superb scenery only for that season.
At Otsu-Kaigan in Toyokoro District in Tokachi, water from the Tokachi River flows into the Pacific Ocean, and after being washed away by the waves, ‘Jewelry Ice’ appears on the sandy beach. Shining in the sunlight, it sparkles brilliantly as a gem amidst the beach.
Recognized as a town for Santa by Norway, the town of Hiroo is home to ‘Santa Land’, where 150,000 illumination lights color the skies and one can enjoy a romantic Christmas from end of October to December.
From end of January in the town of Shikaoi, ‘Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan’ opens at Lake Shikaribetsu. A structure made completely from ice is carved together with an ice bar where people can enjoy cocktails, and special menus are curated just for their visitors.
From end of January in the town of Otofuke, an event called ‘Sairinka’ takes place, where a combination of vast snowfields and numerous illumination lights makes for an unforgettable experience. After that, visitors can relax at the Garden Spa Tokachigawa, where visitors can bathe in bathing suits, and buy local goods at the local market.
